Georgia Representative Scott Holcomb has announced that he will seek re-election to represent the 81st House District, which includes portions of Tucker.

Holcomb sent out an email shortly after noon with the words "I'm in" in the subject line. He went on to write:

I am proud to announce that I will run for re-election this year. I want to continue to work hard on your behalf and help Georgia recognize its incredible potential.

As you may know, Representative Elena Parent and I were paired in the new District 81 as a result of the redistricting process. She and I had agreed that it would not be in the best interests of our constituents if we were to run against each other in the primary. Representative Parent has decided not to seek re-election. As her friend, I am disappointed that she will be leaving the General Assembly. She is one of the most thoughtful, capable, and well-intentioned leaders I know. My sincere hope is that she will soon return to public service. Our state needs her, and more people like her.

In some ways this was not an easy decision for me. While our political system is the best that was ever designed, our politics today are incredibly coarse. We are a divided nation and we are a divided state. These divisions will be on full display as we head toward the primary on July 31st and the general election on November 6th. All of this heated rhetoric makes it hard to come together to find solutions.

I am standing for office again because I believe we need a different kind of politics. In my first term, I worked extremely hard to bring a different tone to service in the legislature. I care more for solutions than for credit. Like so many of you, I want politicians to work honestly at improving education for our kids, investing in our transportation systems, and making our tax system more efficient and more fair. We have great advantages here in Atlanta and Georgia, but our political leaders must be more practical and less partisan. The task is to grow jobs and the economy, and to build sustainable, livable communities. I believe that's what the people of this District want.

I fought hard for my principles and values while seeking common ground with my colleagues from across the political aisle. I was proud to achieve some success in enacting bipartisan measures that benefited Georgia. I would like to continue my service to this community. I hope that I can count on your support to continue that important work.
